Rock Collecting at the Dinosaurs

At the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center, rock collecting is a hands-on adventure that invites visitors of all ages to explore the fascinating world of geology. Nestled at the base of the ancient Jurupa Mountains, the center offers a unique environment rich with minerals, fossils, and colorful stones. During rock collecting expeditions, participants learn to identify various types of rocks and minerals while gaining insight into how they were formed over millions of years. Guests often leave with their own hand-picked specimens as souvenirs, making the experience both educational and memorable. Whether you're a budding geologist or simply curious about the Earth’s natural treasures, rock collecting at JMDC is a fun and engaging way to connect with the land's geological history.

Rock Collecting at the Dinosaurs is JMDC's signature Student Learning Expedition. This Expedition is an
introduction to rocks, minerals and fossils that complements NGSS for most grade levels. The Expedition begins in our rock corral where Student Explorers discover how rocks and minerals are formed, and the many ways we use them in our daily lives. Student Explorers also discover fun facts about fossils. Leaving the rock corral, your Guide leads Student Explorers on a short hike through our gardens, offering information about the dinosaurs they meet along the way. Once Student Explorers reach Dino Mesa, they are each given an egg carton to make their own collection of twelve rocks, minerals or fossils to take home. Virtual Option Available, ask for details

Cost - $10.00 per Explorer.
